The Delmhorst 21-E is a behind-the-wall moisture probe, an electrode that attaches to a Delmhorst moisture meter and reaches past a surface to read moisture where the problem actually is. Building inspectors, restoration technicians and roofing contractors use it when a surface reads dry but the assembly behind it may not be, which is exactly the situation that turns a small water loss into a large one.
Specifications
- Delmhorst designation: 21-E, electrode for wall cavities
- Pins: two, Delmhorst number 608 insulated contact pins
- Pin length: 4 inches overall
- Maximum penetration: 3-1/4 inches
- Insulation: Teflon insulated except for 1/8 inch at the tip
The insulation is the point of this electrode. Because only the last 1/8 inch of each pin reads, the meter reports moisture at the depth the tips reach rather than averaging everything the pins pass through. That is what lets you find wet insulation behind a dry surface.
Applications
Delmhorst describes the 21-E as suited to testing insulation behind drywall, stucco and roofing materials. Distributors commonly extend that to EIFS as well.
Fits
Delmhorst states that its electrodes can be used with any Delmhorst meter that has a universal probe socket. Delmhorst does not publish a specific compatible meter list or a connector specification for this electrode, so confirm your meter has a universal probe socket before ordering.
Related Delmhorst variants include the 21-E/001 with 6-inch pins and the 21-ET with a tapped handle.
