Description Reviews FAQ

The EDCO 97220E is the 36-inch base-mounted core drill rig with 20-amp motor that concrete contractors, plumbing and electrical trades, and HVAC installers specify when the work is large-diameter coring through reinforced concrete and the holes have to come out clean and on-spec the first time. Sold without the vacuum pump (added separately when wet-coring is the job, or omitted for dry-bit work), the 97220E is the heavy-duty rig that turns a one-day coring job into a half-day job.

Built for

Concrete coring contractors running large-diameter holes for plumbing risers, conduit, HVAC supplies, and structural anchoring. The 36-inch column height handles holes up to 14 inches diameter and the 20-amp single-phase motor produces the torque needed for reinforced concrete with rebar.

Plumbing and HVAC installers on retrofit and new-construction work where a one-shot, plumb, on-spec hole through 4-12 inch slab is the difference between a day's work and a redo. The base-mount design holds the bit perfectly perpendicular to the slab, eliminating the operator-induced angle errors of handheld rigs.

Electrical and conduit installers running power feeds and communications conduit through structural concrete. The base-mount column lets the operator core through walls and floors at fixed angles repeatable across a multi-hole job.

Demolition and renovation contractors opening up concrete for plumbing rough-in, retrofit elevator shafts, mechanical chases, and structural reinforcement work. The 97220E is sized for the 4-14 inch hole range that most renovation work falls into.

20-amp motor and slip-clutch

The 20-amp single-phase 230V motor is the right power for the 4-14 inch bit range. It runs on standard jobsite generator power without three-phase wiring requirements, but it produces the torque needed for reinforced concrete that lighter 15-amp rigs stall on. The integrated slip clutch protects the motor and operator if the bit binds on rebar.

Base-mount column

The base-mount column is the engineering feature that distinguishes the 97220E from handheld coring rigs. The base anchors to the slab (typical anchor bolt or vacuum-pad mount) and the column holds the spindle perfectly perpendicular to the floor. The result is a clean, plumb hole every time - critical for plumbing, conduit, and any application where the hole has to align with subsequent fixtures.

Wet or dry coring

The 97220E ships without a vacuum pump. For wet coring (the standard for diamond bit cutting through reinforced concrete), pair the rig with a separate water feed. For dry coring (faster on lower-density material like brick and CMU), no water is required. Vacuum pump or water-feed accessories are sold separately.

Frequently asked questions

Why no vacuum pump included?

Concrete coring jobs split between wet and dry methods. Wet coring requires a water feed but no vacuum pump. Dry coring requires neither water nor vacuum. The vacuum pump is only needed when the rig is mounted to the slab via a vacuum pad rather than anchor bolts. Most coring contractors use anchor bolts and skip the vacuum pump entirely.

What hole sizes does this rig handle?

The 97220E covers 4 to 14 inch diameter holes - the typical range for plumbing, conduit, HVAC, and renovation work. Smaller holes (under 4 inch) are typically run on lighter handheld rigs; larger holes (over 14 inch) require a bigger rig.

Will it cut through rebar?

Yes - the 20-amp motor produces the torque needed to drive a diamond bit through reinforced concrete with typical rebar density. The slip clutch protects the motor if the bit binds on a heavier rebar than expected.

Is the bit included?

No. The 97220E is sold as the rig only. Diamond bits are sold separately and selected by application (concrete, masonry, asphalt) and hole diameter.

What power supply do I need?

The 20-amp single-phase 230V motor runs on standard jobsite generator or wall power. Verify your power supply can deliver 20 amps continuous at 230V single-phase.

Discount Cleaning Products is an authorized EDCO dealer. We stock the 97220E along with diamond bits, water-feed kits, vacuum pumps for vacuum-pad mounting, and the broader EDCO concrete equipment line. Our equipment team can spec a complete coring package and recommend the right diamond bit for your concrete and rebar density.
