Old dried urine is not really a stain problem, it is a chemistry problem: alkaline salt crystals bonded into the fiber plus a sticky lipid residue left behind after the moisture evaporated. Hit that with a normal alkaline prespray and you can make the ammonia smell worse in a closed house. HydraMaster UPS goes the other direction. It is an acid-side pre-spray that dissolves and dislodges those alkaline salt residues and neutralizes the gummy lipids, so your extraction actually pulls the contamination out and whatever deodorizer you use afterward can reach it. This case of 12 one-quart bottles is sized for the cleaner who wants a fresh quart per van or per technician rather than decanting from gallons.
Built for
- Pet urine pre-treatment, before extraction and before the deodorizer. This is step one of a process, not a standalone odor product, and that is exactly why it works.
- Straight-from-the-bottle tannin spotting. Coffee, tea, wine and soft drinks on carpet and upholstery. A genuine second job printed on the manufacturer's label, not a marketing stretch.
- Ice-melt residue. Neutralizes and breaks down the alkaline build-up tracked in over a winter season.
- Wool as well as synthetics. HydraMaster labels it for both, which widens the jobs it is allowed on compared with most heavy urine chemistry.
How it works
UPS is a synergistic blend of acid neutralizers, detergents, odor counteractants and decontamination deodorizers. The specialty surfactants carry the active ingredients deep into the pile so treatment reaches the source material rather than sitting on top of it. Because it contains an odor counteractant and a decontamination deodorizer, it can eliminate odor outright on some urine deposits. On serious or repeated contamination, treat it as the pre-treatment step: pre-treating with UPS makes enzyme and encapsulating pet odor deodorizers work faster and more effectively.
Mixing and use
- Dilution: 1 part UPS to 4 to 6 parts warm or hot water depending on severity.
- As a tannin or acid spotter: apply straight to the affected area.
- Dwell: 3 to 10 minutes.
- Application: saturate-spray so the solution contacts the source material, then flush liberally and extract with a wand or a sub-surface extraction tool.
Pre-test for colorfastness. Because it is acidic, rinse your sprayer after use; cleaners who run it through battery sprayers report being cautious about seals and pumps. Never mix it with chlorine bleach, alkaline products or strong oxidizers.

Frequently asked questions
Is UPS an enzyme product?
No. It is a blend of acid neutralizers, quaternary compounds, detergents and odor counteractants. There are no enzymes, no bacteria and no peroxide. It is designed to be used before an enzyme or encapsulating deodorizer, not instead of one.
Will it get rid of the smell by itself?
Sometimes. HydraMaster's own wording is that it can effectively eliminate odor on some urine deposits. For heavy or repeated contamination, use it as the pre-spray step and follow with a dedicated urine deodorizer and sub-surface extraction.
How do I dilute it?
One part UPS to 4 to 6 parts warm or hot water depending on how bad the contamination is. Used straight from the bottle when you are working it as an acid or tannin spotter. Either way, allow 3 to 10 minutes of dwell.
Is it safe on wool?
HydraMaster labels it for synthetic and wool carpets and rugs. Pre-test an inconspicuous area for colorfastness first. It is not a WoolSafe-certified product.
Will it bleach or lighten the carpet?
It contains no bleach or oxidizer, so it does not work by bleaching. It is acidic, so a colorfast pre-test is still required, and it must never be mixed with chlorine bleach or alkaline products.
How much area does a quart cover?
HydraMaster does not publish a coverage figure because it depends entirely on how heavily you saturate. At 1:4 to 1:6, one quart makes roughly 1.25 to 1.75 gallons of working solution.
