Description Reviews FAQ

Every strip-and-recoat job ends the same way: the big machine covers the open floor and someone is still on their knees with a doodlebug doing edges, corners, stair treads and the six inches behind every toilet. The Koblenz SPM-1080 Mini Accelerator is built to take that job off the floor. It is a 20.65 lb orbital that runs a 4.5 x 10 inch rectangular pad at 3600 RPM, either handheld or clipped to a dust mop handle, so detail prep is done standing up and at machine speed. Restroom and stairwell crews, restoration techs and any contractor doing strip-out in tight commercial space keep one on the cart.

Built for

  • Edges and baseboards. Finishes the perimeter a full-size machine cannot reach without hand-scrubbing.
  • Stairs and landings. Light enough to work a tread at a time instead of by hand.
  • Restrooms. Gets behind toilets, under partitions and into corners where finish and soil build up worst.
  • Small rooms and closets. Offices, server closets, entry vestibules and galley kitchens too small to turn a 20 inch head in.
  • Spot prep before recoat. Knock down a scuffed or bubbled patch without prepping the whole floor.

The machine works two ways. A one-click adjustable handle is built into the body for handheld work, and a clip lets it mount to any standard dust mop handle when you would rather work upright. The on/off switch is on the machine itself, so it runs with or without a handle attached. A pigtail cord connection lets you swap or drop the line cord quickly for transport between floors.

Like the full-size Accelerator machines, the SPM-1080 uses a cast iron body. On an orbital, chassis weight is what presses the pad into the floor, so cast iron is why a 20 lb machine can actually cut finish instead of skating over it. And because the head oscillates rather than spins, it does not grab and run on you in a confined space the way a small rotary will.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Mini Accelerator actually for?

Detail floor prep. It scrubs and strips the edges, corners, stair treads, restroom fixture perimeters and small rooms that a full-size 20 or 28 inch machine cannot reach, so the crew is not finishing the job by hand.

Can it be used without the handle?

Yes. The on/off switch is on the machine body and a one-click adjustable handle is built in, so it works handheld. It also clips onto any standard dust mop handle for upright work.

Will it strip floor finish or only scrub?

Both, with the right pad. It is the same chemical-free orbital principle as the larger Accelerator machines, scaled down to a 4.5 x 10 inch pad.

How heavy is it to hold?

It weighs 20.65 lb without the line cord. That is heavy for a handheld tool, which is deliberate, because the cast iron weight is what supplies pad pressure. Most operators use the dust mop handle mount for anything longer than short bursts.

Does it replace a full-size floor machine?

No. It is a companion tool. Use a 14 x 20 or 14 x 28 inch Accelerator for the open floor and the SPM-1080 for everything that machine cannot reach.
