Hard brick and dense block punish a general purpose blade. The MK Diamond MK-414D 12-inch (305mm) Standard Grade blade is the one MK builds for that material specifically: a dry-cutting segmented blade measuring 12-inch by .125-inch on a 1-inch arbor, aimed at masons, hardscape crews and restoration contractors who are cutting hard-fired brick, pavers and block all day and want the cut to stay fast as the stack goes down.
Use cases
- Cutting hard-fired and engineered brick where a general purpose blade slows down and glazes
- Dense block, pavers and segmental retaining wall units on hardscape and site work
- Winter and cold-climate masonry, where water in a saw tray would freeze overnight
- Stone and block work in dry regions where hauling water to the cut station is impractical
- Restoration and repair cuts where slurry runoff would stain finished masonry below
Why MK built a cold-weather brick blade
This family exists for a practical reason MK states plainly: it was developed for cold weather climates where water in the tray may freeze, and it also took hold in sun-belt states for stone and some types of block. If you have ever arrived on a January morning to a solid saw tray, that is the problem this blade removes. It is equally the answer on any site where water is a logistics problem rather than a convenience.
Segments are laser welded to a high-temperature steel core, which is what lets the blade take the heat a dry cut builds without the bond letting go. The segment gaps double as heat release slots, moving air through the cut so the core runs cooler and the spoil clears. A cooler core stays flatter, and a flat blade gives you a square cut face instead of a wandering one, which on exposed brickwork is the whole job.
One honest caveat on material. MK's own guidance is that this blade will cut any brick product, but on soft or highly abrasive brick it will cut slowly compared with a blade bonded for that material. The MK-414D earns its keep on hard material. If most of your work is soft brick or block, tell us what you are cutting and we will point you at the right bond instead.
Because it is a dry blade, plan for dust. Cutting masonry dry releases respirable crystalline silica, so run a dust shroud and vacuum or introduce water at the cut. Worth knowing: a dry blade like this one can be run wet if you want the dust down, but a wet-only blade can never be run dry.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this blade wet?
Yes. It is built and sold as a dry-cutting blade, which is the point of the family, but running water through the cut for dust control or extra cooling is fine and will not harm it. The restriction only runs the other way: a blade sold for wet cutting must never be run dry.
Will it cut soft brick and block as well?
It will cut them, but slowly compared with a blade bonded for softer material. MK bonds this blade for hard brick, and bond hardness is matched to material hardness by design. If the bulk of your work is soft or abrasive brick, ask us and we will match a blade to it rather than sell you this one.
Why choose a dry blade over a wet saw for masonry?
Three reasons crews give: no water to haul or freeze, no slurry to contain or clean off finished work, and a saw you can carry to the cut rather than carrying the work to the saw. The trade is dust, which you manage with a shroud and vacuum or by adding water at the cut.
What arbor is this part number?
This one is the 1-inch version. MK produces the same 12-inch blade in other arbor sizes under different part numbers, so confirm your saw's spindle size before you order and ask us if you are not certain.
How do I get the most cuts out of it?
Let the blade do the work rather than forcing it, keep the cut straight so the core is not side-loaded, and pull it clear periodically on deep cuts so air can cool the steel. Forcing a dry blade is the fastest way to glaze the segments and lose your cutting rate.
