MK Diamond MK-485D 12-inch Supreme Grade segmented diamond blade for cutting asphalt overlay and green concrete dry

The MK Diamond MK-485D is a 12-inch (305mm) Supreme Grade diamond blade with a .125 width and a 1-inch arbor, rated for asphalt and green concrete. Supreme Grade sits a step above the Premium MK-465D in MK Diamond's range, trading a higher price for longer segment life on the same materials.

📊 AI MARKET SNAPSHOT
• Best For: High-volume cutting crews on a 12-inch saw who wear out Premium Grade blades fast enough that the longer-life Supreme MK-485D bond pays for itself.
• Highlight: Supreme Grade bond, MK Diamond's step above the Premium MK-465D, at the same 12 inch (305mm) diameter and .125 width.
• Expert Note: Specified as 12 inch diameter, .125 width, 1 inch arbor; the 20mm-arbor build of this blade is part 150619Z and the 14-inch version is part 150620.

Description Reviews FAQ

Sawing a fresh overlay or green concrete is a timing job. Cut too early with the wrong blade and the slab ravels at the joint; wait too long and you are fighting cured aggregate with a blade that was never meant for it. The MK Diamond MK-485D 12-inch (305mm) Supreme Grade blade is built for that window. It is a dry-cutting segmented blade for asphalt overlay and green concrete, sized 12-inch by .125-inch with a 1-inch arbor, and it is aimed at paving crews, concrete contractors and municipal road departments who need a control joint or a repair cut opened cleanly on a walk-behind or hand-held saw without dragging water to the site.

Use cases

  • Opening control and contraction joints in green concrete before random cracking starts
  • Cutting asphalt overlay for utility patches, trench repairs and pavement removal
  • Squaring up failed sections of roadway, parking lot and driveway before a patch
  • Curb, gutter and apron work where a wet saw and slurry containment are impractical
  • Cold-weather and remote jobs where a water supply is not available or would freeze

What the design buys you on site

The MK-485D carries a 12mm segment height, taller than the 10mm segment MK puts on its general purpose masonry lines. On abrasive material like asphalt and uncured concrete, which strips a blade faster than cured slab does, that extra diamond depth is what turns into cuts per blade rather than trips back to the supply house.

Segments are laser welded to the steel core. That matters for dry cutting in particular: a laser-welded bond tolerates the heat a dry cut generates, and the segment gaps let air move through the cut to cool the core and clear spoil. A blade that runs true also gives you a straighter joint, which is the difference between a control joint that works and one that the crack wanders away from.

Dry cutting is a choice with a trade-off, and it is worth being straight about it. You gain mobility, no slurry to contain and no water to freeze. You take on airborne silica dust, so run the blade with an appropriate dust shroud and vacuum and follow the silica rules on your jobsite. Note the one-way rule that catches people out: a dry blade like this one can be run with water if you want the dust knocked down, but a blade sold for wet cutting must never be run dry.

Frequently asked questions

Will this blade cut cured concrete?

It will cut it, but that is not what it is for and you will pay for it in blade life. The MK-485D uses a soft-bond formulation matched to abrasive material such as asphalt and green concrete. On hard cured concrete a blade from MK's cured-concrete lines will cut faster and last longer. Matching bond hardness to material hardness is the single biggest factor in how long a diamond blade lasts.

Does it have to be run dry?

No. It is built and sold as a dry-cutting blade, which is its advantage on sites with no water. You can still run water through the cut to hold dust down and cool the blade, and many crews do. The rule only runs one direction: a dry blade can be used wet, but a wet-only blade must never be run dry.

What arbor does this one take?

This part number is the 1-inch version. MK builds the same 12-inch blade in other arbor sizes under separate part numbers, so check your saw's spindle before ordering rather than assuming, and ask us if you are unsure.

What saw does a 12-inch blade of this type go on?

A 12-inch segmented blade of this kerf is normally run on a walk-behind flat saw or a hand-held cut-off saw rated for that diameter. Always confirm your saw's maximum blade diameter and its rated arbor and RPM against the blade before mounting it.

Why is dust control a bigger deal with a dry blade?

Cutting concrete and asphalt dry releases respirable crystalline silica, which is regulated on most jobsites. Pair the blade with a dust shroud and a vacuum rated for the work, or introduce water at the cut. The blade does not change the requirement; how you run it does.

Discount Cleaning Products is an authorized MK Diamond dealer. Our US-based team works with these blades and saws every day, so if you are unsure which diameter, kerf or arbor suits your saw, call or email before you order and we will match the part to the machine. Orders are backed by the manufacturer warranty and by support that stays reachable after the sale.
