When a job lives or dies on dry time, vacuum lift matters more than pressure. The Hydro-Force Nautilus Extreme MXE-200 is the portable a restoration contractor reaches for when carpet and pad have to come out damp enough to walk on the same day, and the cleaner on a high-rise or strip-mall route reaches for when the truckmount cannot get within 150 feet of the work.
Two high-efficiency 8.4-inch Ametek Lamb two-stage vacuum motors give the Nautilus Extreme roughly double the vacuum of a comparable portable, and it still runs on only two cords rather than three. That combination is the whole point of the machine: more water out of the carpet on every pass, fewer passes, and a floor that is dry hours sooner without adding a third circuit to an already tight building.
Built for
- Water damage extraction. Under IICRC S500 practice, extraction is the first step before air movers and dehumidifiers go down. The more water you pull mechanically, the less the drying equipment has to do and the shorter the whole job runs.
- Long-hose commercial work. Vacuum falls off fast over distance. Contractors running 150 feet or more of vacuum hose up stairwells and down corridors buy this machine specifically because it still has lift at the wand.
- Occupied buildings on a deadline. Offices, medical suites, hotels and schools where the carpet has to be usable before the doors open. Faster dry time is not a nicety in those accounts; it is the reason you get the next one.
- Truckmount backup and no-access jobs. Basements, upper floors, gated garages and any site where hose runs from the street are not realistic.
- Restorative cleaning at 200 PSI. Enough pressure for varied carpet types and moderate to heavy soil in residential and light commercial work.
What the extra vacuum actually buys you
Two things cleaners consistently point to. First, resoiling: carpet that is left wet at the base of the pile traps the detergent and soil you did not pull out, and it looks dirty again within weeks. Heavier extraction takes that residue with the water. Second, callbacks. Slow-drying carpet in a humid building is how you end up with odor complaints and, in the worst case, secondary damage. Pulling more water at the wand is the cheapest insurance against both.
The machine is built to survive a route. The body is roto-molded polyethylene rather than sheet metal, so it shrugs off door frames and truck decks. Twelve-inch rear wheels and 5-inch casters are sized to get up a curb and over a threshold with 12 gallons on board instead of fighting you.

Frequently asked questions
Is 200 PSI enough for commercial carpet?
For most residential and light-to-moderate commercial soil, yes. 200 PSI gives you flexibility across carpet types and moderate soil loads. For heavy restaurant, hotel and high-traffic commercial soil, cleaners generally step up to a 300 PSI or higher machine, or add a rotary and a heavier prespray to the process. On the Nautilus Extreme the bigger advantage is the vacuum, not the pressure.
Why does it need two cords instead of one?
Two 8.4-inch two-stage vacuum motors plus the pump draw more current than a single 15-amp household circuit will supply. Two cords on two separate circuits is still one fewer than most dual-motor high-vacuum portables require, which is a real advantage in older buildings where finding a third independent circuit is difficult.
Can I run it with long vacuum hose runs?
That is one of the main reasons this machine exists. It was built for cleaners running 150 feet or more of vacuum hose, where an ordinary portable loses most of its lift before the air reaches the wand. Keep hose diameter at 2 inches for as much of the run as possible and use the supplied cuffs and reducer at the wand end.
Is it suitable for water damage extraction?
Yes. The high vacuum is well suited to bulk water removal from carpet and pad ahead of air movers and dehumidifiers. For deep pad extraction most restoration crews pair it with a weighted or self-propelled extraction tool rather than a standard wand.
What is the difference between the MXE-200 and the MXE-200M?
The MXE-200 ships with the hose package: wand, vacuum hose, solution hose, carry bag and reducer cuff. The MXE-200M is the same machine sold as a machine-only unit for cleaners who already have hoses and tools they prefer.
