Upholstery is where a carpet cleaner gets into trouble. A prespray that is fine on nylon carpet can brown a wool sofa or leave a dye-sensitive fabric looking worse than when you started. Prochem Fine Fabric Prespray (107566) is built for that work: a concentrated blend of solvents and detergents made specifically for wool and the fine fabrics found in upholstery, and approved by the WoolSafe organization as safe on wool. This listing is a case of four one-gallon jugs.
Built for
- Wool and wool-blend upholstery, where a general-purpose prespray risks browning or dye bleed
- Silk-look, viscose and other delicate fine fabrics on residential furniture
- Fabric panels, office chairs and cubicle walls in commercial accounts
- Truckmount and portable extraction jobs where the tech presprays, dwells and extracts
Mixing and coverage
Dilution is 4 oz per gallon of water in a pump sprayer. With an injection sprayer, combine 1.5 quarts of concentrate with 5 quarts of water using a 1:8 yellow metering tip. One gallon of concentrate yields up to 33 gallons of ready-to-use solution, and one diluted gallon covers roughly 400 square feet, so a four-gallon case goes a long way on an upholstery route. Ready-to-use pH is 7.5 to 8.2, which keeps the solution in the mild alkaline range that wool tolerates.
As with any fine fabric work, pretest in an inconspicuous area, check the manufacturer cleaning code before you wet the piece, and extract thoroughly rather than leaving residue behind.
