The Type F1 is the HEPA filter that sits inside most Dirt Devil bagless uprights built from March 2003 onward, and it is almost always the reason a bagless machine that used to clean well suddenly does not. Bagless vacuums load their filter far faster than owners expect, because everything that misses the cyclone goes straight into the pleats. The machine keeps sounding normal while suction quietly drops, and the usual verdict is that the vacuum is worn out when in fact the filter is simply full.
This filter uses HEPA media that removes 99.97 percent of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns, which covers the material that actually triggers symptoms in a house: dust mite debris, pollen, mold spores, pet dander and fine household dust. In a bagless machine the filter is the last barrier before the exhaust blows back into the room, so its condition is directly what determines whether vacuuming cleans the air or stirs it up. Replacing it is a two minute job with no tools.

Frequently asked questions
How often should the F1 filter be replaced?
Every three to six months under normal household use. Homes with pets, heavy carpet or anyone with allergies should lean toward the shorter end. A filter that looks grey through the pleats even after tapping it out has reached the end of its useful life regardless of how long it has been in service.
Can I wash this filter instead of replacing it?
Rinsing HEPA pleats degrades the media and can leave moisture in the filter, which is how odors start. Tapping loose dust out over a trash can between changes is fine and helps, but it does not restore a loaded filter. Once airflow has dropped, replace it.
Which Dirt Devil models take the F1?
The F1 covers a wide range of bagless uprights from March 2003 onward including Breeze, Jaguar, Featherlite, Scorpion, Scorpion Deluxe, Vision and Platinum Force Vision. If your existing filter is the tapered shape measuring roughly 3.25 inch at the bottom and 2.75 inch at the top, it is an F1.
My vacuum lost suction. Will a new filter fix it?
On a bagless upright, a loaded filter is the most common cause by a wide margin, so it is the first thing to change. If suction is still weak with a new filter, check the hose and the brush roll passage for a clog and confirm the dirt cup is seated and sealing.
