Textured tile, sealed concrete and commercial vinyl hold grit down in the surface where a smooth-faced tool skates right over it. The 15-inch nylon Sidewinder is the head for those floors: a stiff nylon bristle strip that digs fine grit and sand out of grout lines and surface texture while the vacuum lifts it away. At 15 inches wide it is the more maneuverable of Sandia's two nylon Sidewinder heads, which makes it the practical choice for restrooms, kitchens, entryways and back-of-house areas where the floor is broken up by fixtures and equipment.
Built for
- Textured or matte tile, grouted tile, sealed concrete and commercial sheet vinyl
- Restrooms, commercial kitchens, entry vestibules, locker rooms and back-of-house corridors
- Entrance areas that collect tracked-in sand and grit between scrubber cycles
- Facility crews running Sandia Raven backpacks who need a bristle head rather than a felt one
How the Sidewinder design works
A Sidewinder head mounts on a flexible neck and swings through a full circle, so the face of the tool stays flat on the floor no matter what angle the wand is held at. Instead of pushing a vacuum head forward and back, the operator sweeps it side to side the way you would run a dust mop, standing upright rather than bent over the wand. Crews that vacuum long corridors and open floor for hours at a time generally report that the sweeping motion is easier on the lower back than push-pull vacuuming and covers a run of floor in fewer passes.
Nylon is the working end of the Sidewinder hard-floor group. The bristles are stiff enough to break grit loose from grout and surface texture, which is exactly the debris a smooth felt or squeegee head will pass over. The trade-off is that nylon is not the head to run on a high-gloss finish you are protecting; horsehair or felt is specified for those.
Vacuuming grit off a hard floor before it gets walked in matters more than most routes account for. Loose sand under foot traffic is abrasive, and pulling it off tile and concrete on the nightly pass is cheaper than restoring a scratched finish later.

Fitment
This head is part of Sandia's Sidewinder accessory group and attaches to Sandia Sidewinder wands, including the 59-inch one-piece and two-piece wands. It is an accessory head, not a complete wand assembly, so you will need a Sidewinder wand on the machine to use it. If you are not sure which wand is on your backpack, call us with the machine model and we will check it against Sandia's parts list.
Frequently asked questions
Nylon or horsehair for my floors?
Nylon for textured, matte and grouted surfaces where grit sits down in the surface, and for sealed concrete. Horsehair for finished and polished floors where a stiff bristle could mark the surface.
Is 15 inches or 18 inches the right width?
The 18-inch covers more floor per pass and suits open areas. The 15-inch is easier to work around fixtures, into stalls and through doorways, which is why it is common on restroom and kitchen routes.
Does this attach straight to the backpack hose?
No. It mounts to a Sandia Sidewinder wand, and the wand connects to the machine. It is not a standard straight-wand fitting.
Will it pick up standing water?
No. This is a dry pickup tool. For liquid recovery Sandia makes a Sidewinder squeegee head, and wet pickup also depends on your machine being rated for it.
Discount Cleaning Products is an authorized Sandia dealer. We stock the full Sandia Raven backpack and Sidewinder accessory line, so replacement heads, wands and brushes come from the same catalog as the machine they attach to. Our US-based staff works with commercial cleaning contractors and in-house facility crews every day and can confirm fitment against your machine and wand before you order.
