Ametek Lamb 11611001 vacuum motor, 5.7-inch two-stage bypass peripheral discharge unit for 220 to 240 volt machines

Alternative Views:

The Ametek 11611001 is a two-stage, 5.7-inch bypass vacuum motor wound for 220-240 volts, with peripheral discharge and ball bearings at both ends. It is the standard-frame 5.7-inch bypass motor for high-voltage machines.

📊 AI MARKET SNAPSHOT
• Best For: 220-240 volt canister and central vacuums on the 5.7-inch frame that pick up wet or abrasive material and need the windings kept out of the debris stream.
• Highlight: A standard bypass frame rather than the quieter QBP version, which keeps the cost down wherever motor noise is not a consideration, such as a plant room or a truck-mounted machine.
• Expert Note: Peripheral discharge, 220-240 volts, ball bearing at each end. If the machine ducts its exhaust out one side, a tangential-discharge 5.7-inch motor is the correct choice instead.

Description Reviews FAQ

The Ametek Lamb 11611001 is a two-stage bypass vacuum motor with peripheral discharge, built for 220 to 240 volt operation. Bypass construction routes cooling air through a separate path from the working airstream, which is what allows this class of motor to be used in wet and dry recovery machines and central vacuums where the suction air is not clean enough to cool the armature. It is bought almost entirely as a replacement motor by service techs rebuilding a central vacuum power unit or an extractor, and at close to 20,000 RPM with roughly 355 air watts it puts a machine back to the output it had when it was new.

Use Cases

  • Rebuilds 220-240 volt central vacuum power units using a 5.7-inch two-stage motor
  • Restores carpet extractors and wet recovery machines after motor failure
  • Replaces motors in commercial canister vacuums on 240 volt single-phase supply
  • Powers recovery equipment where the working air is too dirty or damp to cool a motor
  • Serves as a shelf spare for shops servicing 240 volt central vacuum equipment

Figures deliberately omitted

Published sources for this part disagree on the amp draw and, in one case, on the fan diameter. Rather than pick one, neither disputed figure is stated above. If current draw is critical to your build, contact us and we will try to confirm it against Ametek documentation before you order.

Fits

Supplier cross-reference tables for this motor family list a number of central vacuum power units, but those tables are published against the base part number rather than this exact suffix, and they conflict with other sources on core specifications. No compatibility list is published here for that reason. Confirm fitment against your machine model number, and against the physical dimensions and discharge orientation of the motor you are replacing, before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a bypass motor matter on a wet recovery machine?

In a bypass motor the working air never touches the windings; a separate fan draws clean air to cool the motor. That is why moisture in the recovered airstream does not immediately short the motor. A thru-flow motor exhausts the working air straight across the windings and will fail the first time water reaches it.

What does peripheral discharge mean?

The exhaust air vents evenly around the perimeter of the motor housing rather than exiting through a tube on the side. Machine housings are built around one arrangement or the other, so a peripheral motor has to replace a peripheral motor for the exhaust path to line up.

Can this run on 120 volts?

No. It is wound for 220 to 240 volt operation. On 120 volts it would spin far too slowly to develop useful suction. North American household equipment needs a 120-volt motor of the same body size and configuration.

Why is the current draw not listed?

Because published sources disagree on it for this part number, and one source also disagrees on the fan diameter. Rather than pick a figure and present it as fact, both disputed values are left out. Contact us if the amperage matters for your circuit and we will try to confirm it first.
