MK Diamond MK-500 12" (305mm) Standard Grade for Cured Concrete, Concrete Blade # 130229

MK Diamond MK-500 130229 twelve inch standard grade wet cutting concrete blade with 1 inch arbor

The MK Diamond MK-500 is a 12-inch (305mm) standard-grade diamond blade for cutting cured concrete. It is the value tier below MK Diamond's premium MK-505 line, intended for occasional or budget-conscious hardened-concrete cutting rather than continuous production work.

📊 AI MARKET SNAPSHOT
• Best For: Occasional cured-concrete cutting on a 12-inch saw where a standard-grade MK-500 bond is sufficient and the premium MK-505 price is not justified.
• Highlight: Standard grade at 12 inches: the entry point of MK Diamond's MK-500 cured-concrete range and the diameter that fits most common walk-behind and cut-off saws.
• Expert Note: A standard-grade bond wears faster in fully cured concrete than a premium bond, so match this 12-inch MK-500 to intermittent cutting and step up a grade if you are running a full shift of hardened slab.

Description Reviews FAQ

The MK-500 is MK Diamond's standard-grade wet cutting blade for cured concrete, and part number 130229 is the 12-inch, 0.125 inch kerf version on a 1-inch arbor. It is the everyday blade for flat saw work on slabs that have gone off: control joint work on cured pours, saw cutting for trenching and utility runs, demolition layout cuts, and the general concrete cutting that fills a contractor's week.

MK positions the MK-500 series as the widest range of quality and performance in their cured concrete line, and standard grade is where most jobs land. It is a laser welded segmented blade, which is the construction that lets a segment survive the heat and side load of production cutting instead of coming off the core.

Built for

  • Control and contraction joint cutting on cured slabs
  • Trenching layout and utility penetration cuts in floors and pavement
  • Demolition perimeter cuts where a clean edge matters for the patch
  • Concrete contractors and rental fleets running 5 to 12 horsepower flat saws
  • Municipal and facility crews cutting sidewalk, curb and slab repairs

Cured concrete is a hard-bond problem in reverse

Choosing a concrete blade by diameter alone is the mistake that burns through blades. What governs blade life is whether the matrix wears at the same rate the diamonds dull. Cured concrete is hard and non-abrasive relative to green concrete: it dulls diamonds without eroding the bond, so a cured concrete blade needs a matrix that releases spent diamonds and brings fresh ones to the surface. Put a green-concrete blade in a cured slab and it glazes, heats and stops cutting. The MK-500 is formulated for the cured side of that line.

Reading the MK-500 chart before you order

MK builds the MK-500 from 10 inches to 36 inches, and several diameters exist in more than one kerf. The 12-inch is offered at 0.125 inch as part number 130229 and at 0.250 inch as 128918. The 14-inch runs 0.125, 0.250 and 0.375 inch. Every MK-500 uses a 1-inch arbor and every one carries 10mm segment height. Order by all three numbers, diameter, width and arbor, not by diameter alone, or you will get the right size blade with the wrong kerf.

Frequently asked questions

What horsepower saw does the MK-500 need?

MK publishes a 5 to 12 horsepower range for the MK-500 series. That is the walk-behind flat saw and larger handheld class. Running it on a saw below that range starves the blade and it will polish rather than cut; running well above it risks overheating a standard-grade blade.

What is the difference between 130229 and 128918?

Kerf. Both are 12-inch MK-500 blades on a 1-inch arbor. The 130229 is 0.125 inch wide and the 128918 is 0.250 inch wide. The thinner blade removes less material and cuts faster for the same power; the thicker one is specified where the cut has to accept a wider joint or where blade stability under load matters more.

Cured concrete versus green concrete: does it matter which blade I use?

It matters more than diameter does. Green, uncured concrete is soft and abrasive and needs a hard bond that holds diamonds in. Cured concrete is hard and dulls diamonds, so it needs a bond formulated to release them. The MK-500 is built for cured concrete; using it on green concrete will wear it out quickly.

Is this a wet blade or can it run dry?

The MK-500 is a wet cutting laser welded segmented blade. Water controls heat at the segment weld and keeps silica dust down, and cured concrete generates plenty of both.

How do I tell how much life is left?

Measure remaining segment height against the 10mm the segments start at. That is a direct reading of blade life left, unlike counting linear feet, which varies enormously with aggregate hardness.
