Description Reviews FAQ

Rainbow owners tend to keep their machines for decades, and the power nozzle brush roll is the part that wears out long before the motor does. This is the replacement brush roll for Rexair Rainbow power nozzles in the center-belt configuration - the version where the belt rides in a groove at the middle of the roller rather than at one end. It fits the D4C SE and Performance Edition nozzles and the E series, and it is the part to order when the bristles have gone short and shiny, the roller rattles in its bearings, or the belt keeps throwing.

Built for

  • Rainbow power nozzles that no longer groom carpet or lift pet hair from pile
  • Brush rolls with worn, splayed or missing bristle rows after years of service
  • Rollers that rattle, drag or squeal because the end bearings are worn out
  • Owners restoring an older Rainbow rather than replacing a machine that still runs

Center belt or end belt - check before you order

Rexair built this brush roll in two arrangements, and they are not interchangeable. On this one the belt sits in a groove in the middle of the roller. The other style runs the belt at one end. Pull the nozzle cover off and look at where the old belt tracks before ordering, because the wrong version will not seat and will chew a new belt in short order. This center-belt roller is the one used on D4C SE, Performance Edition and E series nozzles.

Why the brush roll is the part that matters

Airflow lifts what is sitting on the surface. The brush roll is what reaches into the pile and drives embedded grit up where the airflow can take it, which is why a Rainbow with a worn roller feels weak even with a clean water basin and a healthy motor. Bristles shorten gradually enough that most owners do not notice until they compare a fresh roller against the old one. The bearings are the second half: a roller that has developed drag pulls on the belt, runs it hot and shortens the life of the nozzle motor behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Which Rainbow power nozzles does this brush roll fit?

It fits the center-belt Rexair Rainbow nozzles, including D4C SE, Performance Edition, E series, PN2 and PN3. If you are unsure which nozzle you have, the belt position is the deciding factor rather than the model badge.

How do I tell whether I need the center-belt or end-belt version?

Remove the nozzle cover and look at the old roller. If the belt sits in a groove at the middle of the brush, this is the correct part. If the belt runs at one end, you need the end-belt version instead.

Does the belt come with the brush roll?

No, the belt is sold separately. Most owners replace both at once, since a new belt on a worn roller tends to fail early and a new roller deserves a belt with full tension.

How do I know the roller is worn rather than the motor?

Spin the roller by hand with the belt off. Grinding, drag or side play means the bearings are done. Then look at the bristles: if they no longer stand proud of the roller evenly, or the tips are shiny and splayed, the brush is finished regardless of how the bearings feel.
