The Panasonic BF-541A/K is a portable emergency flashlight that lives in a wall-mounted cradle and switches on by itself the moment it is lifted out. Returning it to the cradle switches it back off. Facilities keep these stationed along corridors and stairwells in hospitals, hotels, schools, nursing homes, office buildings and government buildings, where an outage means people need a light in hand immediately rather than after a search through a drawer.
The front face carries an illuminated locator marking so the unit can be found in a dark room, and the battery is held disengaged while the light sits in storage, so it is not draining current between uses.
