Warehouse aisles, plant floors, school corridors and big-box retail have hard floors that are textured, grouted or sealed concrete, and they collect grit faster than anything else in a building. The 18-inch nylon Sidewinder is built for that combination: a full-width stiff nylon bristle that works sand and fine grit up out of surface texture and grout lines while the vacuum carries it away, across the widest path Sandia offers in this head style.
Built for
- Sealed and polished concrete in warehouses, plants and distribution centers
- Grouted, quarry and matte-finish tile in school corridors, retail and food service areas
- Entrance and vestibule floors that collect tracked-in sand and ice melt
- Contract cleaners and facility crews on Sandia Raven backpacks with a Sidewinder wand
How the Sidewinder design works
A Sidewinder head mounts on a flexible neck and swings through a full circle, so the face of the tool stays flat on the floor no matter what angle the wand is held at. Instead of pushing a vacuum head forward and back, the operator sweeps it side to side the way you would run a dust mop, standing upright rather than bent over the wand. Crews that vacuum long corridors and open floor for hours at a time generally report that the sweeping motion is easier on the lower back than push-pull vacuuming and covers a run of floor in fewer passes.
The reason a bristle head matters on textured floor is simple: a smooth-faced tool rides on the high points of the surface and pulls only what is sitting on top. Grit that has settled into grout lines and surface texture stays put until something agitates it. Nylon is stiff enough to do that and hold its shape through a commercial cleaning schedule.
Pulling abrasive grit off a floor on the nightly pass is preventive work. Sand left under foot and cart traffic is what wears a sealed concrete or tile finish down, and vacuuming it out is far less expensive than resealing.

Fitment
This head is part of Sandia's Sidewinder accessory group and attaches to Sandia Sidewinder wands, including the 59-inch one-piece and two-piece wands. It is an accessory head, not a complete wand assembly, so you will need a Sidewinder wand on the machine to use it. If you are not sure which wand is on your backpack, call us with the machine model and we will check it against Sandia's parts list.
Frequently asked questions
What floors is the nylon head for?
Textured, matte and grouted tile, sealed and polished concrete, quarry tile and commercial sheet vinyl. It is the head chosen when grit sits down in the surface.
Can I use it on finished hardwood or high-gloss floors?
It is not the recommended choice there. Sandia's horsehair and felt Sidewinder heads are the ones specified for finished floors where a stiff bristle could mark the surface.
18-inch or 15-inch?
The 18-inch covers more floor per pass and is the better fit for warehouse aisles and long corridors. The 15-inch is easier to maneuver in restrooms, kitchens and areas broken up by fixtures.
Does this include the Sidewinder wand?
No, the head only. It mounts to a Sandia Sidewinder wand, which connects to the backpack vacuum.
