When a 15-inch rotary tool starts throwing overspray onto baseboards and leaving water standing behind the pass, the problem is usually not the machine - it is the dome. The Sandia 10-0864-OUTER SHELL is the genuine replacement plastic housing for the 15-inch turbo tool, and it is the single part that decides whether the tool holds vacuum or wastes it. Tile and grout contractors, restoration crews and in-house facility maintenance techs buy this shell so a cracked or gouged housing does not force them to replace a tool that is otherwise perfectly good.
Built for
- Tile and grout contractors running the 15-inch turbo tool five days a week on commercial floors
- Restoration and janitorial crews whose tool took a hit off a truck gate, a stair edge or a door frame
- Facility maintenance departments keeping a spare housing on the shelf so a cracked dome never cancels a shift
- Anyone whose tool suddenly leaves standing water or sprays past the edge of the deck
What this part does
A rotary extraction tool works by sealing a dome against the floor. Inside that dome the jets spin and drive solution down into the grout while the vacuum slots pull the dirty water straight back out. The outer shell is what creates the seal and the airflow path. Once it cracks, warps or wears through at a contact point, the tool bleeds air, the vacuum drops, and the solution that should be recovered ends up on the floor and the walls instead.
When to replace it
- Visible cracks, star fractures or chips anywhere on the housing, especially around mounting points
- Overspray appearing on baseboards, appliance kickplates or adjacent walls that never happened before
- Standing water or a wet stripe left behind the pass even though the vacuum motors sound normal
- A hissing or whistling sound from the deck under load, which is air being pulled through the shell rather than the slots
Fitment
This is the factory outer shell for the Sandia 15-inch turbo tool, part number 10-0864-OUTER SHELL. It is a service component within the 10-0864 tool family and is not a standalone cleaning tool. If you are not certain which shell your deck takes, check the part number stamped on the tool or send us the tool model and we will confirm it before you order.
Getting the most life out of it
Most shells die from impact rather than wear. Store the tool on its side or bristles-up rather than resting the full weight of the swivel and hoses on the dome, keep the deck about half an inch off walls so you are not grinding the edge into trim, and knock the grit off the dome and brush ring before it goes back in the van. Grit trapped between the shell and the floor acts like sandpaper on both.
Specifications
Sandia warranty policy (as published by the manufacturer): 2-year warranty on all vacuum motors; 2-year warranty on 100 psi pumps only, 1-year warranty on all other pumps; 90 days on parts, tools and accessories.
The warranty does not cover defects or failures resulting from improper or absent maintenance, misapplication, misuse, tampering, or substitution of provided parts. It also excludes pumps stored in freezing conditions, pumps run for extended periods with no water, use of powdered detergent, failure to flush the system regularly with a vinegar solution, filters removed from the solution tank, and inline filters that are not cleaned regularly. Sandia covers up to one year of service labor at the manufacturer's calculated hourly rate when the work is performed by a manufacturer-authorized service provider; after one year the original retail purchaser is responsible for all labor. Authorized warranty replacement parts must come directly from the manufacturer - using other parts voids the warranty. Contact the manufacturer before changing out any part, and do not return parts or equipment without an RMA number and prior approval. Warranty starts on the purchase date by the original purchaser from an authorized distributor, subject to proof of purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Will a cracked shell really cost me cleaning power?
Yes. Rotary tools depend on a sealed dome. Air that leaks through a crack is air that is not being pulled through the vacuum slots, so recovery drops and the floor stays wet even when the machine itself is running at full strength.
Is this the whole tool or just the housing?
Just the housing. The 10-0864-OUTER SHELL is the plastic outer shell only. Jets, spray bar, swivel, latch, hoses and trigger are separate part numbers in the same 10-0864 family.
Does replacing the shell myself void my Sandia warranty?
Sandia requires that warranty replacement parts come directly from the manufacturer and that you contact them before changing out parts on a machine still under warranty. Using a genuine Sandia part keeps you inside that requirement.
My tool sticks to the floor. Is the shell the problem?
Usually not. A tool that grabs the floor and will not glide is normally carrying too much vacuum - open the relief vent slightly. A damaged shell causes the opposite symptom, which is lost vacuum and standing water.
