When a repair detail calls for a cut deeper than a 26-inch blade will reach, the next step up in the MK Diamond MK-505 line is the 30-inch plate. This is the premium-grade, laser-welded wet-cutting blade MK builds for cured concrete, supplied here in the .210 kerf on a 1-inch arbor for walk-behind flat saws.
Built for concrete sawing contractors, highway and bridge crews, and demolition subcontractors
Use cases
- Deep full-depth cuts in thick slabs and decks. A 30-inch plate reaches where a 24-inch or 26-inch stops, which keeps a thick deck from needing a second pass from the underside.
- Highway and airfield pavement removal. Straight, full-depth perimeter cuts let a removal panel lift cleanly instead of breaking ragged into the pavement that stays.
- Heavy industrial floor and foundation openings. Cutting an opening for new equipment or utilities through a thick cured floor is the classic large-diameter flat saw job.
- Structural concrete repair layout. A defined saw cut at the boundary of a repair area gives the patch a square shoulder to bond against.
Choosing between the MK-505 sizes
MK publishes the 30-inch MK-505 in two kerfs, .187 and this .210. The .210 plate is the stiffer of the two. On a 30-inch blade that extra plate thickness is what keeps a deep cut tracking straight; the thinner .187 asks less of the saw but has less resistance to deflection at full depth.

Getting a full life out of the blade
Most large-diameter blades that come back worn out early were not defective. They were run on a saw that could not turn them, run dry or run short of water, or pushed harder than the bond could shed. MK rates the MK-505 line at 8 to 20 horsepower, and the larger the plate the closer to the top of that range you want to be. A saw that bogs drops the blade below its efficient surface speed, the segments stop shedding worn diamond, and the blade glazes over instead of cutting.
Keep the water on and keep it even on both sides of the plate. Water is doing three jobs at once: holding the core temperature down so the plate stays true, protecting the laser-welded joint between segment and core, and flushing slurry out of the kerf so the diamond stays in contact with concrete rather than with its own cuttings. Let the blade set its own feed rate. Forcing a large blade into a hard-aggregate slab does not speed the cut, it deflects the plate and rounds the segments. If a blade does glaze, a pass through an abrasive material will usually re-expose the diamond; running it harder will not. Finally, check the arbor and flanges before every blade change, because a worn or dirty flange face is a common and avoidable cause of a blade that will not track straight.
Fitment and ordering notes
This blade is supplied with a 1-inch arbor, the standard shaft size on the walk-behind flat saws it is intended for. Before ordering any large-diameter plate, confirm two things on your machine: that it is rated for this blade diameter, and that the blade guard will physically accept it. A saw will often spin a blade it was never rated to carry, and that is neither safe nor productive. MK also notes that additional blade diameters and special arbors in the MK-505 range are available on request.
Frequently asked questions
How much horsepower does a 30-inch MK-505 need?
MK rates the MK-505 line at 8 to 20 horsepower. A 30-inch blade belongs on a saw at the top of that range. Turning a large plate takes torque, and a saw that bogs will glaze the segments.
Why is the kerf .210 instead of thinner?
Plate thickness buys stiffness. On a 30-inch blade taken to full depth, a thicker plate resists deflection and keeps the cut from wandering off line.
Does it need water?
Yes. The MK-505 is a wet-cutting blade. Running water keeps the core cool, holds segment life and knocks down respirable silica.
What arbor does it take?
A 1-inch arbor, which is the standard shaft size on the walk-behind flat saws this diameter is normally mounted on.
How long should the segments last?
MK builds the MK-505 with a 12mm segment height, which is the wear material you have to work with. Actual life depends on aggregate hardness, water supply and feed rate more than on any published figure.
