Granite fights back. It is dense, high in quartz and it will chew through a blade that was bonded for softer stone. The MK Diamond MK-62G is MK's premium-grade segmented-rim wet-cutting blade formulated specifically for granite, and this is the 16-inch size on a .125 plate with a 1-inch arbor.
Built for granite fabricators, countertop shops, monument shops and stone contractors
Use cases
- Granite slab cutting on a bridge saw. 16 inches is the standard production diameter for breaking slabs down into countertop blanks.
- Countertop fabrication: rips, cross cuts and cutouts. A bond matched to granite is what keeps segment wear even across a production day.
- Monument and memorial work. Granite is the dominant monument material and wants a granite-specific blade.
- Hard dimensional stone. Dense stones behave more like granite than marble under a blade.
Choosing between the MK-62G sizes
MK offers a 16-inch, .125, 1-inch arbor blade in both the MK-62G and the MK-62M, and they look alike on the shelf. The difference is the bond: the MK-62G is built for granite, the MK-62M for marble. Ordering by part number rather than by size is the way to be sure you get the right one. Within the MK-62G line itself, MK lists 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20-inch sizes.

Getting a full life out of the blade
In a stone shop the two things that end a blade early are the wrong bond and not enough water. Bond first: stone blades are formulated to the material, and the segments only stay sharp when the stone abrades them at the rate the bond was designed around. Put a soft-stone blade in dense, high-quartz granite and the wear turns rapid and uneven; put a granite blade in polished marble and the edge quality suffers. Ordering by part number rather than by diameter is what keeps this from happening in a shop that runs both.
Water second. A segmented-rim wet blade needs a steady feed on both sides of the plate. Water controls the core temperature, holds the segment bond together, flushes slurry out of the kerf and knocks down the respirable silica that cutting stone releases. Beyond that, the habits that protect a finished edge are the ordinary ones: check that the saw's flanges are clean and undamaged, let the blade feed at its own rate instead of forcing it, and on polished stock take a shallow scoring pass before committing to the full-depth cut. None of that is specific to MK blades, but all of it shows up in the difference between a blade that lasts a season and one that does not.
Fitment and ordering notes
This blade is supplied with a 1-inch arbor, which is standard on the bridge and rail saws it is built for. MK states that stock arbors can be bushed down to smaller sizes, but that has to be specified at the time the blade is ordered rather than fixed afterwards. MK also lists additional diameters and special arbors as available on request. Confirm your saw's rated maximum blade diameter and its guarding before stepping up a size.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the MK-62G and the MK-62M?
The bond. The MK-62G is formulated for granite and other dense stone; the MK-62M is formulated for marble and other soft stone. Both are offered as 16-inch, .125, 1-inch arbor blades, so check the part number.
What happens if I cut granite with a marble blade?
Granite is dense and high in quartz, and a bond meant for soft stone typically wears rapidly and unevenly on it. Using the material-matched blade is the cheaper answer.
Is it a wet-cutting blade?
Yes. The MK-62G is a segmented-rim wet-cutting blade. Water controls heat, extends blade life and suppresses silica dust.
What is the segment height?
MK publishes an 8mm segment height for the MK-62G line.
Can it cut engineered quartz or porcelain?
It is bonded for granite. Engineered and ultra-compact materials have their own blade recommendations and are outside what MK specifies this blade for.
