Surface grinding concrete is the fastest way to fill a building with silica dust. The Dustless Technologies DustBuddie XP D5850 is a 7-inch grinding shroud that mounts to nearly any 6-inch to 9-inch angle grinder and captures up to 99 percent of that dust at the wheel. It is aimed at concrete surface prep crews, coatings and epoxy installers, and restoration contractors who grind adhesive, mastic or high spots inside finished buildings and cannot hand the owner a dust-covered space afterward.
Built for
- Surface prep and coatings crews grinding before epoxy, urethane or overlay
- Flooring contractors removing adhesive, mastic, thinset and paint
- Concrete repair crews knocking down high spots and trip hazards
- Restoration and remediation teams working inside containment
Use cases
- Grinding tight to a wall. The front cover slides around so the shroud can be pushed against a wall or column - the single feature that decides whether a crew keeps the shroud on or pulls it off for edges.
- Adhesive and coating removal indoors. Point-of-origin capture with a HEPA vacuum keeps the dust out of the air handler and off adjacent finished work.
- Uneven slabs. A patented floating head lets the shroud contour to the grinder's movement instead of lifting off and venting dust on every pass.
What holds up on a jobsite
The XP is molded in glass-filled nylon rather than standard plastic, which is the reason it survives abrasion that cracks lighter shrouds - grinding is far harder on a shroud body than cutting is. The replaceable brush skirt is the other piece of practical design: the bristle seal is the wear item on every grinding shroud, and being able to replace the skirt instead of the whole shroud is what keeps the running cost sane on a crew that grinds daily.
As with any shroud, capture is only as good as airflow behind it. Run it on a certified HEPA vacuum rated at 175 CFM or higher; below that the seal cannot do its job no matter how well the shroud is built.

Frequently asked questions
How does the XP differ from a standard DustBuddie grinding shroud?
The XP body is glass-filled nylon for abrasion resistance, adds a patented floating head that contours to the grinding surface, uses a replaceable brush skirt, and has a sliding front cover for grinding against a wall.
Can I grind right up to a wall with it on?
Yes. The front cover slides around so the shroud can be pushed against a wall or edge without removing it from the grinder.
What grinders will it fit?
It fits most 6-inch to 9-inch angle grinders and mounts on collars from 2.1-inch down to 1.3-inch using a universal pivoting mount.
What vacuum airflow does it need?
A certified HEPA vacuum at 175 CFM or higher. This is what allows it to meet EPA and OSHA point-of-origin dust containment expectations and to capture up to 99 percent of grinding dust.
Is the brush skirt replaceable?
Yes. The bristle skirt is the normal wear item on a grinding shroud and it can be replaced without replacing the shroud.
