Checking your bag type
Panasonic marked the bag type on the bag door of most uprights, and that letter code is the fastest check you can make. U-12 covers a wide span of the MC-UG5xx and MC-UG7xx range plus much of the MC-GG and MC-V series, but Panasonic also used Type U, U-3 and U-6 bags, and the collars are not all interchangeable. Keep the old bag and compare the collar shape before you buy a case of anything.
Getting the most from micro filtration
The bag is only one part of the filtration path. A U-12 bag doing its job will hold fine dust that would otherwise reach the exhaust filter, but if that filter is already loaded from months of single-ply bags, the machine will still smell dusty in use. Check the exhaust and pre-motor filters when you switch, and change the bag at around two thirds full rather than running it until airflow visibly drops - by the time you notice the suction loss, the fines have already been working their way through.
