Description Reviews FAQ

This item has been discontinued, but the manufacturer suggests Tucker ONE HALF CUBIC FOOT OF VIRGIN DI RESIN, 20007.5 as the closest match or upgrade.

Virgin deionization (DI) resin from Tucker USA, supplied one cubic foot at a time, part number 20007. DI resin is what makes water-fed pole window cleaning spot-free: it strips the dissolved minerals out of the feed water so the rinse dries off the glass without leaving deposits behind.

How DI resin works

The resin is made up of two kinds of charged polymer beads, anion and cation. As water passes through the bed, each bead type attracts the oppositely charged dissolved minerals and holds onto them, so the water leaving the vessel is stripped of the solids that cause spotting. A mixed bed combines both bead types in a single vessel, which is what replaced the older two-tank arrangement.

Virgin versus regenerated

Virgin resin has never been used. Regenerated resin has been used, chemically cleaned and resold, and there is no way for a buyer to tell how many times a given batch has been through that cycle. Tucker sells virgin resin only, for that reason. New virgin resin can read a low but non-zero TDS at first, typically 12 to 15, from manufacturing residue on the beads. That clears to zero after a few hours of flow and is not a fault.

Getting the most out of a charge

Flow rate matters. Small cartridges need a slower flow or the TDS creeps up; a full one or two cubic foot vessel tolerates a much faster rate. When packing a cartridge, fill it as full as will still close. When filling a large DI tank, leave roughly six inches of headspace at the top. How many gallons a charge produces depends entirely on the TDS of your source water, so the higher your incoming TDS, the fewer gallons you get per charge.

Tucker catalogs the same virgin resin in a half cubic foot size under part number 20007.5, if that suits your vessel better.

Water produced by DI resin is not potable and should not be used for drinking.
