If your building runs on 230-volt service, a 115-volt vacuum is not a bargain - it is a transformer, a warranty problem and eventually a dead motor. The Sandia 230 Volt Hipster is the same 6-quart hip vacuum the domestic line is built around, wired for 230 V mains, supplied here with the 5-piece standard tool kit (part 30-4001).
Read this before you order: this unit is for international and 230-volt service only. It will not run on a standard US household outlet. And 230 V is not more powerful than 110 V - it is a different supply voltage, not an upgrade. Buy it because your building is on 230 V, not because you expect more suction.
Built for
- Facilities on 220 to 240 V mains. Hotels, offices and institutional buildings outside the North American 115 V standard.
- Export and procurement buying. US-based purchasing agents specifying equipment for an overseas site.
- Tight, furnished commercial space. Same as the domestic Hipster - corridors, guest rooms, offices, stairs, anywhere a backpack tank is too wide.
- Daytime cleaning in occupied areas. The noise-suppressing exhaust chamber is what makes hip and backpack machines usable during business hours.
The Hipster design, unchanged
Worn on the hip so you can vacuum while walking, with a four-way belt tensioner and a waist-belt design that spreads the load and reduces fatigue over a shift. The reversible cap adjusts for left- or right-handed use, so one machine fits whoever is on the cart. Soil goes into a disposable heavy-duty paper micro-bag mounted inside a washable cloth shakeout bag, and a bag support plate keeps the bag from collapsing against the intake and starving airflow as it fills.
The body is impact-proof polyethylene with unbreakable stainless steel latches and a 1.5-inch industrial hose. There is an easy-to-reach on/off switch and a 50-foot safety power cord.
Note on filtration
This is the 230 Volt Hipster, not the HEPA Hipster. Sandia sells a separate HEPA model in this family. If HEPA filtration is a requirement for your site, ask us about the HEPA configuration rather than assuming this unit carries it.

Frequently asked questions
Will this run on a normal US household outlet?
No. It is built for 230-volt service and is sold for international use only. Running it on 115 V will not work, and using a step-down or step-up transformer to force it is not something we recommend.
Is 230 V more powerful than the 110 V version?
No. Voltage is the supply standard, not a performance rating. The 230 V Hipster is the same machine wired for a different mains supply.
Does this model have HEPA filtration?
This is the 230 Volt Hipster, not the HEPA Hipster. Sandia builds a separate HEPA model in this family. Contact us if HEPA filtration is a requirement for your site.
What is in the tool kit?
Kit 107098: a two-piece wand, a 14-inch Xover floor tool, a crevice tool, a dust brush and an upholstery tool.
Who normally buys a 230-volt commercial vacuum?
Buyers whose building or site runs on 220 to 240 V mains rather than the North American 115 V standard, and US purchasing agents specifying equipment for an overseas facility.
Why choose a hip vacuum over a backpack?
The hip mount keeps the operator narrow, which matters in corridors and furnished rooms where a backpack tank catches on walls and fixtures.
Discount Cleaning Products is an authorized Sandia dealer. Because Sandia does not publish a public product page for the 230-volt models, call or email our US-based team before ordering and we will confirm the current configuration, plug type and bag compatibility with the factory for your site.
