The back-mounted format is what makes it usable in a cabin at all. An upright or a canister has to be dragged down the aisle and repositioned at every row, and it blocks the aisle for everyone else working the turn. Wearing the machine leaves both hands on the wand, lets the operator work down a row and back out again, and keeps the aisle clear for catering and crew.
