The Ametek Lamb 115684 is the 240-volt version of the workhorse 7.2-inch two-stage tangential bypass motor, and it is bought almost entirely by people rebuilding export-market or industrial equipment rather than by anyone shopping for a new machine. Bypass construction is the reason it lasts: the working air goes out through a tube on the side of the motor while a separate fan draws its own clean air across the windings, so damp debris and fine dust never reach the armature. On a 1400-watt 240-volt supply the two-stage fan set holds sealed lift where a single-stage motor would collapse, which is what a long hose, a loaded filter or a run of central vacuum pipe demands.
Use Cases
- Rebuilds 220-240 volt central vacuum power units in markets outside North America
- Restores commercial canister and utility vacuums running on 240 volt single-phase supply
- Powers sprayers, foggers and material transfer equipment that needs bypass cooling
- Drives car wash vacuum stations and industrial recovery machines on 240 volt service
- Serves as a stocked spare for facilities running imported or export-spec cleaning equipment

Fits
No single machine compatibility list covers this motor, because the 7.2-inch 240-volt two-stage tangential bypass format is used across many equipment brands. Verify against the motor you are removing: body diameter, stage count, voltage, discharge style and mounting height all have to match. Note that this is a 240-volt motor and will not run correctly on a 120-volt supply.

This is a special order item with an 8 to 10 week lead time from the manufacturer. Please plan your service accordingly, and contact us before ordering if timing is critical to your project.
Frequently asked questions
Can I run this motor on 120 volts?
No. It is wound for 220 to 240 volt operation. Run on 120 volts it will turn slowly, produce almost no suction and draw current in a way that can damage it. If your machine is on North American household power you need the 120-volt equivalent instead.
Why does the 240 volt version pull less airflow than the 120 volt one?
Different fan sets and different rated power. This motor is rated 1400 watts and produces 97.8 CFM with 338 air watts, while the 120-volt motors in the same body size are wound and geared for different figures. Compare air watts rather than volts when you are judging performance.
Is a bypass motor necessary for wet pickup?
It is the construction wet-capable machines are built around. In a bypass motor the working air never passes over the windings, so moisture in the airstream does not short the motor. A thru-flow motor exhausts the working air directly across the windings and will fail immediately if water or foam reaches it.
What is tangential discharge?
It describes where the exhaust leaves the motor. A tangential motor sends it out through a tube on the side; a peripheral motor vents it around the whole circumference. The housing in your machine is built for one or the other, so the discharge style has to match or the exhaust duct will not line up.
Discount Cleaning Products is an authorized dealer for Ametek Lamb vacuum motors and stocks replacement motors, carbon brushes and service parts for commercial and central vacuum equipment. Orders are supported by a US-based team that works with these motors every day, so if you are unsure which body diameter, stage count, discharge style or voltage your machine takes, ask before you order.
