Before you replace the fan
Work the airway first. Change the bag, then check the hose and the lower duct for a lodged sock, paper or hair mat. If air moves freely and suction is still gone, pull the base plate and look at the fan directly. Techs report that a cracked fan housing often shows up alongside a cracked fan, so inspect the housing while you have the machine open - replacing only the fan into a split housing will not restore full airflow.
Installation notes
Reaching the fan means opening the base and removing the retaining nut from the motor shaft. Most owners who are comfortable with hand tools complete the job in under an hour.
