This is the agitator assembly, commonly called the brush roll, for the Panasonic MC-V5278 upright vacuum. The agitator is the rotating brush that sweeps debris out of carpet pile and feeds it into the airflow. It is a wear item: bristles shorten and stiffen with use, and the assembly is normally replaced when the brush no longer reaches into the carpet or when an end has seized. Replacing a worn agitator restores the machine ability to lift embedded soil rather than simply cleaning the surface.
